The Sand Bypass System is a permanent solution to sand erosion and littoral drift problems affecting river mouths and navigation channels worldwide. Department of Transport and Main Roads (then Queensland Transport), in conjunction with consulting engineers Cardno & Davies Pty Ltd, developed what is acknowledged as the world's largest sand bypass system at the mouth of the Nerang River on Queensland's Gold Coast. This proven technology has successfully operated since 1986 and is available for export through a joint venture consulting service.
