Transport Registration and Integrated Licensing System (TRAILS)
The Transport Registration and Integrated Licensing System (TRAILS) is the Department of Transport and Main Road's computer-based driver licensing and vehicle and vessel registration control system. The registration data for the state's 4 million vehicles and licensing information on its 2.9 million drivers is handled by this one integrated system. The system works on the basis of linking licenses and vehicle registration to the client, making records management more effective. It currently manages more than 260 online procedures by providing online, real time access to 56 customer service centres and 84 service agencies throughout Queensland. TRAILS now maintains records on more than five million clients, manages more than 16 million transactions a year — and collects more than A$1.2 billion in revenue a year.
TRAILS is a sophisticated, yet straightforward, client-focused and highly cost effective solution to integrating core transport business services. There are significant business advantages to implementing TRAILS. These include:
- increased revenue
- reduced fraud
- increased administrative savings
- improved data for policy making
- improved traffic offence payment rates
- significant time and financial savings compared with the option of developing a system from scratch
- enhanced information intelligence
- faster client service
- reduced car theft
- reduced computer costs
- improved road safety
- low lead time.
High application stability, minimal down time and exceptional interactive flexibility has enabled TRAILS to provide both users and customers with reliable, immediate access to information and services.
