Pensioner and senior registration concessions
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is making travel easier for Queenslanders by offering pensioners and seniors concessions on their motor vehicle registration fees.
If you hold one of the following cards, you may be eligible for a 50 per cent reduction of your vehicles registration fee:
- a Queensland seniors card
- a pension concession card.
- a pension concession card
- a confirmation of concession card entitlement form
- a Queensland seniors card
- a letter from the Department of Veteran Affairs confirming you are either an ex-service person who is 70-100 per cent incapacitated or that you are a war widow.
Concession conditions
You can only claim the registration concession if registering:
- a motorbike or motor vehicle up to 4.5 tonne gross vehicle mass, or motorised caravan, registered in your name
- a recreational vessel
- a vehicle used mainly for private use.
New vehicle or vessel
When buying a new vehicle or vessel, you will need to make an application for the concession to be applied to the new registration. For new motor vehicles, this can be arranged with the motor dealer at the time of registration.
Second-hand vehicle or vessel
When buying a registered vehicle or vessel, such as a second-hand vehicle or vessel, you will need to make application for the concession to be applied to the registration at time of transfer. This will ensure that when you next renew your registration, it will be at the concessional rate.
Replacement vehicle or vessel
If you are one of the following you do not need to re-establish your eligibility when you apply for a registration concession on a replacement vehicle or vessel:
- A veteran who receives a pension.
- An ex-service person who is 70-100 per cent incapacitated.
- 65 years and older and hold a Queensland seniors card.
In this instance you must: - have completed a Registration Concession Application form (F3937)
- be the registered operator of the replacement vehicle or vessel and it is to be used primarily for private use
- have been previously identified with the Department of Transport and Main Roads as a senior over 65 years of age or an ex-service person who is 70-100 per cent incapacitated or a veteran
- currently have a registration concession on your vehicle or vessel.
If you do not meet any of the above, you will need to complete the Registration Concession Application form (F3937) and present it with one of the following:
- a Queensland seniors card
- a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs confirming you are an ex-service person who is 70-100 per cent incapacitated or a war widow in receipt of the maximum rate of income support supplement
- a pension concession card.
