Non Government Schools Transport Assistance Scheme

Students attending non-state schools may be eligible for assistance under the Non Government Schools Transport Assistance Scheme which is administered by the Queensland Catholic Education Commission. For further information refer to www.qcec.qld.catholic.edu.au* or phone +61 7 3336 9286.

The Non Government Schools Transport Assistance Scheme comprises:

Code of Conduct for School Students Travelling on Buses

The Code of Conduct is a set of behavioural guidelines for students to follow when travelling on school buses.

It was developed by Queensland Transport in consultation with the Department of Education and the Arts, the Queensland Police Service, bus industry groups, parent groups, principals' associations, unions and non-state school authorities.

A copy of the Code of Conduct for School Students Travelling on Buses is available.

Managing student behaviour on buses

Coping with students' behaviour on school runs is not easy. In partnership with the Department of Education and the Arts, and the bus industry of Queensland, we have developed a training package for bus drivers on managing student behaviour.

Further information on the Managing Student Behaviour on Buses Package can be accessed on this site by navigating through the links on the left hand side of the screen.

School Bus Upgrade Scheme (SchoolBUS)

School Bus Upgrade Scheme is a financial assistance scheme that provides funding to school bus operators. The objective of the scheme is to accelerate the introduction of rollover-compliant buses into the Queensland school bus fleet. Under School Bus Upgrade Scheme, certain school bus operators are able to apply for funding to assist with the purchase of buses that are less than 10 years old (by the date of the body compliance plate).

More information on School Bus Upgrade Scheme is available.

Steep Bus Upgrade Scheme (SteepBUS)

Steep Bus Upgrade Scheme is a component of the School Bus Upgrade Scheme.

In Queensland there are designated long steep and very steep downhill roads on which buses are not permitted to carry standing passengers. These roads are known as Environment 3 roads. A number of bus operators provide school bus services, under contract to Queensland Transport, which travel over these designated roads.

Steep Bus Upgrade Scheme has been introduced specifically to assist school bus operators providing services required under a contract with Queensland Transport, which operate over these designated roads, to provide buses which meet certain standards.

More information on SteepBus is available.
