Maritime Safety Queensland
Maritime Safety Queensland is a government agency attached to Queensland Transport. Maritime Safety Queensland's role is to protect Queensland's waterways and the people who use them—providing safer, cleaner seas. Maritime Safety Queensland has responsibility for:
- improving maritime safety for shipping and small craft through regulation and education
- minimising vessel-sourced waste and providing response to marine pollution
- providing essential maritime services such as port pilots and aids to navigation
- encouraging and supporting innovation in the maritime industry.

Gold Coast dredging initiatives
In the past 10 years, Queensland Transport has invested over A$66 million in maintaining the Gold Coast waterways channel network both in dredging projects and operating and maintenance of the Gold Coast Seaway sand bypassing system. Visit Gold Coast dredging initiatives for more information.
