Compressed work week
Similar to flexible hours, a compressed work week will generally allow an employee to work their standard work week over fewer days. For instance, working approximately nine hours a day for four days with a day off every week, or working approximately eight hours a day with a day off every fortnight. It is possible to achieve this under most flexible working hours policies.
As with all flexible work arrangements, compressing the work week requires a high level of communication with management and work colleagues. It may also involve up-skilling other employees to cover for staff members on the days they are not working.
