Bicycle education

As children grow older, they need to learn how to ride on paths and roads without parental supervision.

A practical bike education program provides a safe and controlled learning environment in which children can learn riding skills, road rules and how to identify hazards in the environment where they cycle.

Bike education can be provided through schools and community groups. Contact your local road safety staff for further information.

Cycling—a guide for parents and carers (PDF**, 304KB) is a brochure produced by Queensland Transport to encourage parents and carers to teach their children to ride safely. It includes information on safety equipment and a checklist for children and their bikes. Practical tips on bike maintenance and how to choose the right bike for your child are also included.
