Queensland Transport is required to adhere to various Queensland Government regulations and legislation. The Director-General of Queensland Transport also administers a number of legislation.
Every driver in Queensland must understand the Queensland road rules. They are actively enforced to avoid safety risks. A number of changes to the Queensland Road Rules came into effect on 1 January 2005. Changes have been made to reflect amendments to the nationally agreed Australian Road Rules and are designed to keep the road rules largely consistent throughout Australia.
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is a government agency attached to Queensland Transport. MSQ's role is to protect Queensland's waterways and the people who use them—providing safer, cleaner seas.
