
Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS)
The Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS) provides authorised persons with the ability to inspect and measure vehicles of more than 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM), or trailers of more than 750 kilograms aggregate trailer mass (ATM) prior to registration on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
This scheme falls under the provisions of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995.
The objective of the scheme is to ensure that heavy vehicles and trailers comply with:
- dimensional limitations
- approved load sharing axle systems guidelines
- safe tyre limits
- vehicle identifiers (for example, engine number, vehicle identification number, chassis number and so on).
