Heavy vehicles

The Department of Transport and Main Roads promotes the safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable use of road transport infrastructure in ways that support economic development.

The department is responsible for managing access to the road network for excess mass and excess dimension vehicles, pilot and escort vehicles and the transportation of dangerous goods. This assists to promote a safe road network for all users as well as minimising damage to Queensland's road infrastructure.

We also develop and administer fatigue management policies and the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme to create a safer road environment and provide flexibility for responsible operators. Fatigue management policies aim to reduce fatigue-related crashes of heavy vehicles and improve productivity and operational flexibility for industry.
