Heavy vehicle guidelines — information bulletins and forms

The Department of Transport and Main Roads, in cooperation with other agencies, local government and industry, has developed numerous guidelines and policies to facilitate the movement of large vehicles and vehicles carrying large indivisible articles within Queensland in a safe and efficient manner. These guidelines and policies provide a balance between the needs of industry and the impact of heavy vehicles on the road network and the community.

The regulation mass and dimension rules are described in the Transport Operations (Road Use Management — Mass, Dimension and Loading) Regulation 2005 (PDF**, 500KB). Guidelines provide an exemption from regulations and are considered a legal authority. These guidelines enable access to the road network, in some cases, without the need for obtaining individual permits.

A detailed reference of various combinations and their axle masses are indicated in the Axle Mass Limits in Queensland Comparison Table (PDF**, 234KB). These masses are a guide only and may change. They are only a reference to Queensland legislation and should not be taken to ovedrride the legislation.

It is not a requirement in Queensland to carry a guideline in the vehicle. Operators should, however, be fully aware of all the conditions and restrictions that apply when considering operating under the legal authority of a guideline.
