Car licences

Queensland has adopted the national approach to licensing to encourage safer, more proficient drivers.

The graduated licensing system is designed to give novice drivers more supervised on-road driving experience, including identifying and dealing with hazards, and to improve their driving skills with minimal distraction.

There are three types of car licences:

Before you drive, or learn to drive, any class of motor vehicle on a road in Queensland, you must have a current driver licence allowing you to drive or learn to drive that class of vehicle.
