The Queensland Government has introduced a graduated licensing system to help reduce fatalities on the roads - particularly among young drivers. The aim of the system is to encourage safer, more proficient drivers and riders.
High-powered and performance vehicle restriction
High-powered and performance vehicle restrictions apply for the duration of P1 and P2 licence periods for under 25s. These restrictions also apply to probationary licence holders who return from a disqualification to a P1 or P2 probationary licence, where at the time of the offence they were under 25. These limits apply for the duration of the probationary period regardless of age.
After successfully completing your written road rules test and obtaining a learner licence, you will receive a learner driver multimedia kit. This kit contains valuable information for both you and your supervisor.
The first step you need to take before learning to drive a vehicle is to obtain a learner licence for that class of vehicle. The Learner driver handbook and Supervising driver handbook are available from this page.
Once you have successfully completed a practical driving test, you are eligible to apply for a P1 or P2 provisional licence. A P1 licence for a car (class C) will only be issued to people under the age of 25. You will receive a P1 handbook when you gain your P1 licence. This will provide information about your P1 licence and outline the conditions and restrictions of your licence.
Q-RIDE registered service provider information
Q-RIDE is a competency based training and assessment scheme which is designed to ensure participants continue their training until they can demonstrate they are competent motorbike riders. This page details the requirements to become a Q-RIDE registered service provider. Queensland Transport will assess your ability to comply with the registered service provider standards by conducting a desktop review of your application and submission and an on-site entry audit.

The book is a valuable source of information for learner drivers, their tutors, and people who already have their licence but want to refresh their knowledge of the road rules.
