
New Queensland driver licence
This Queensland driver licence initiative site contains information on the new 'smartcard' licence to be introduced in 2009.The Premier announced in December 2005 that the Queensland Government had approved the introduction of the new smartcard driver licence. This will replace the current laminated card that has been in operation for nearly 20 years.
What is the new Queensland driver licence?
The Queensland driver licence initiative introduces smartcard technology to improve the security of driver licences and other photographic products issued by Queensland Transport. This includes the 18+ card, driver authorisations for passenger transport and a variety of industry authorisations.
What will the new smartcard driver licence look like?
The new smartcard driver licence will contain the same information as the existing laminated licence, but will also include a digital photograph and a smartchip to store licensing and other information.
When will I get one?
The new smartcard driver licence will be available to Queensland licence holders after the implementation of the project in 2009.
