OnQ project management framework

OnQ is the project management framework of Queensland Transport and the Queensland Department of Main Roads. It directs and guides effective management of projects. The framework consists of elements in the diagram below. Projects generally produce some form of physical and/or intellectual asset or service; OnQ addresses primarily the delivery phase of the asset ownership, management, operations cycle (PDF**, 31KB) but can be adapted to other parts of the cycle, for example strategic/business/portfolio planning or program management.

The business process flow diagram (PDF**, 17KB) shows the relationship between business/portfolio management, program management and project management.

This site is generic and makes no attempt to deal with the technical content of projects, programs or portfolio/ business. It brings a strategic, business-management perspective to the generic rationale for establishing and managing them.

The methodology and templates handle the most complex projects. These should be scaled back as appropriate for less complex and lower risk projects as in the scaling criteria (PDF**, 23KB).
