
Busways
Busways provide access to fast, frequent and reliable public transport across Brisbane. Buses travel in a dedicated corridor separated from general traffic to provide a congestion-free trip.For more information on each of the busway projects, please click their respective links.
Current busway projects
Boggo Road Busway
This new 1.5 kilometre (km) busway will connect the University of Queensland and the Eleanor Schonell Bridge to a new busway station near Park Road rail station and the Boggo Road Urban Village.
The A$226 million Boggo Road Busway will also link to the Eastern Busway, and is due for completion in mid-2009.
Eastern Busway
The 18 km Eastern Busway will connect Brisbane's eastern suburbs to the busway network, and will be built over the next twenty years as needed based on traffic levels and funding availability.
Eastern Busway Stage 1 — Princess Alexandra Hospital to South East Busway (Buranda)
Stage 1 of the Eastern Busway involves building a new 600 metre busway linking the Boggo Road Busway to the South East Busway at Buranda, and constructing a new busway station at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
This A$140.8 million busway section is due for completion in late 2009.
Eastern Busway Stage 2 — Buranda to Main Avenue, Coorparoo
The A$465.8 million second stage of the Eastern Busway will deliver a new 1.05 km busway from the South East Busway at Buranda to Main Avenue, Coorparoo.
This stage of the Eastern Busway will also provide a new busway station at Stones Corner and a new premium bus stop at Langlands Park that allows for a future busway station. Funding to acquire properties to Cavendish Road, Coorparoo is also included in this stage of the project.
Construction of Stage 2 of the Eastern Busway is scheduled to commence in mid-2009, and due to finish in 2012.
Northern Busway
There are currently two stages of the A$777 million Northern Busway being built.
Northern Busway Stage 1 — Royal Children's Hospital to Windsor
Stage 1 of the project involves building a new 1.2 km busway connecting the Inner Northern Busway at Herston to Windsor, and will also construct a new busway station at the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital.
This A$198 million busway section is due for completion in late 2009.
Northern Busway Stage 2 — Windsor to Kedron
The Northern Busway from Windsor to Kedron is being delivered with the Airport Link* project, and is managed by the Department of Infrastructure and Planning* and City North Infrastructure*.
This project stage will build a new three kilometre busway, as well as new busway stations at Lutwyche and Kedron.
Construction began in October 2008 and is due for completion in 2012. Visit the Northern Busway Windsor to Kedron website* for more information.
Completed busway projects
Inner Northern BuswayThe Inner Northern Busway links Queen Street in Brisbane's CBD to the Royal Children's Hospital. The busway features stations at King George Square, Roma Street, Normanby, the Kelvin Grove campus of the Queensland University of Technology, and the Royal Children's Hospital at Herston.
The A$493 million busway was completed in May 2008.
South East Busway
The South East Busway was the first of a series of busway networks to be developed in South East Queensland.
The first section of South East Busway between the CBD and Woolloongabba opened in September 2000 to coincide with the first match of the Olympic Games Football Tournament at the Brisbane Cricket Ground (The Gabba). The second section between Woolloongabba and Eight Mile Plains opened in April 2001.
