Caboolture Landsborough Rail Upgrade Study

The Queensland Government has announced the 17 km rail corridor between Beerburrum and Landsborough has been approved for design and construction after extensive community consultation and environmental assessment during 2005 and 2006.

Stage 1 - Needs assessment

A needs assessment for the existing corridor was undertaken by comparison to Levels of Service criteria. Levels of Service criteria were based on measures determined to best represent the user's perspective of rail transport availability, comfort (public transport only), and convenience. These measures include service frequency, hours of service, passenger loads, freight loads, reliability and travel time.

Stage 2 - Existing corridor upgrade options

Stage 2 identified the ultimate upgrade option available within the existing corridor as a combination of full rail track duplication, revised train scheduling, improved signalling, additional station platforms at Elimbah, Beerburrum and Beerwah, and improved station facilities including lifts, lighting, security and overpasses.

Stage 3 identified and assessed the potential benefits and impacts of corridor options not restricted to the existing corridor. The process used to select the preferred corridor option for further development and assessment involved:
