Cairns Transit Network
Public consultation on the draft Concept Design Report is happening in November and December 2009. Visit the project website for more information.
A new phase of planning is underway to improve public transport in Cairns into the future.
The Queensland Government has commenced planning for a new transit network for Cairns. This planning includes building a network to deliver dedicated public transport spines that will connect the length and breadth of Cairns. The network will be an attractive, fast, frequent and reliable transit network that will be custom-built to fit in with the Cairns lifestyle and climate.
This is about protecting our lifestyle into the future, keeping Cairns moving, the economy strong and Cairns beautiful.
What will the Cairns Transit Network do for Cairns?
The Cairns Transit Network will make it easier for people to move around Cairns on public transport now and into the future. It will connect Cairns from Palm Cove to Gordonvale and the neighbourhoods in between.
The network will improve public transport by giving buses priority by either providing separate transit lanes or dedicated bus-only roads. It will help make public transport an attractive alternative to traveling by car. The transit network will make trips fast, frequent and reliable. This is a long-term vision for the future of Cairns, and is planned to be built and opened in stages.
