Registration
Registration is a vital part of Queensland's transport system. It ensures accurate and secure vehicle records are kept. This allows Queensland Transport to identify registered operators and manage, develop and improve road infrastructure.
- Conditional registration
Conditional registration is a scheme for non-standard vehicles that previously were exempt or unable to be registered. It gives you the benefit of compulsory third party insurance in the event of a crash.
Only non-standard vehicles that have a legitimate need to access the road to perform operational tasks are accepted.
Non-standard vehilces approved for registration are broken into the following groups:- agricultural vehicles
- construction vehicles
- recreational vehicles
- Perpetual vehicle registration
There are organisations that offer perpetual vehicle registration over the internet. You cannot legally register your vehicle for road use with any organisation other than Queensland Transport. If you do purchase perpetual registration over the internet your vehicle will be considered unregistered and uninsured for compulsory third party insurance. You will be either fined for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle or summoned to appear before a magistrate if you are intercepted by a Queensland Police Officer or a Queensland Transport Inspector. Any number plates issued as part of the perpetual registration are illegal and may be confiscated.
In addition, if you are involved in an accident and people are injured you will be held personally responsible for any personal injury claims for compensation.
