Negotiations with industry stakeholders and the Queensland Police Service have resulted in the following image download framework:
- Taxi booking companies are provided with hardware and software to perform their own image downloads for less serious incidents like fare evasion, disorderly conduct, complaints, offensive behaviour, theft of property, damage to property and physical assaults that do not cause injury. Taxi booking companies will self adjudicate on the need for these downloads.
- The Queensland Police Service is provided with hardware and software to perform image downloads. Police will adjudicate for serious incidents such as physical assault causing injury, sexual assault, murder and robbery. Serious incidents are to be reported to a police officer who will determine the appropriate 'download operator' (for example, the Queensland Police Service or the taxi booking company) and the process for conducting the image download and management of any crime scene.
- We have issued detailed guidelines (PDF**, 310KB) on how images are to be downloaded and used.
How much will image downloads cost?
Downloads are free. Taxi booking companies and the Queensland Police Service are provided with hardware and software to perform image downloads.
How is the system controlled?
Tough legislation and system controls will be put in place to ensure privacy and control of images for authorised use only. Images can be downloaded only if there is an incident. This legislation will cover tough penalties for any person caught tampering with a Taxi Security Camera System.
