Coal Transport Infrastructure in Queensland: Overview of Future Expansion
Queensland coal exports are growing rapidly in response to strong world demand for coal, particularly from the Asia Pacific region.
Based on current demand, Queensland coal exports are projected to grow by approximately 42 per cent by 2010 and by a further 40 per cent by 2015.
The Queensland Government is leading the provision of expanded coal transport infrastructure to meet this demand.
This overview sets out current port and rail capacities, likely expansions by 2015 and possible expansions by 2020 where demand warrants, which provides a basis for planning the necessary supporting infrastructure.
The Queensland Government is committed to growing a diverse economy, creating jobs and expanding export and trade opportunities.
