Where can I take the test?
The hazard perception test is an online computer-based test which measures a driver's ability to anticipate and appropriately respond to potentially dangerous situations while driving. All P1 provisional licence holders must pass the hazard perception test in order to graduate to either a P2 provisional or open licence (dependent on age).
Customers will view video clips of genuine, unstaged traffic scenes filmed from the driver's perspective and be required to anticipate potential traffic conflicts by clicking on the video using the computer mouse. A traffic conflict is something that would require the driver to take some action, for example, slow down, overtake or change course.
The hazard perception test is available for all eligible P1 provisional licence holders via services online. Only P1 provisional licence holders who have held their licence for a cumulative period of 10.5 months will be able to access the test.
More information on the hazard perception test is available in the Hazard perception test brochure (PDF**, 697KB) [also available in smaller files—Part A (PDF**, 316KB) and Part B (PDF**, 392KB)]. Queensland Transport will notify P1 provisional licence holders when they are eligible to sit the hazard perception test.
If you have moved since gaining your P1 provisional licence, please change your address with Queensland Transport.
Before taking the hazard perception test:
- View the test instruction video, mouse skills exercise and practice hazard perception test before starting the actual hazard perception test. These services are free of charge and have been designed to help you familiarise yourself with what is required in order to maximise the likelihood of passing the test on the first attempt.
- Make sure your computer has:
- Adobe Flash Player version 9 (9.0.115 or greater). If the computer you are using does not have this or a higher version, you will be prompted to download the required Flash player automatically and without cost
- broadband internet access (minimum 256 kilobytes download speed recommended) and a minimum of 25 megabytes free hard drive space per test is also recommended.
- If you are planning on taking the hazard perception test from an external internet provider such as a local library or internet café, Queensland Transport strongly advises that you contact the internet provider in advance to confirm usability requirements.
Where can I take the test?
Tests will not be available in driver licence issuing centres.
