A study is underway to identify and prioritise road network connectivity and safety improvements to increase road capacity within the growing southern Sunshine Coast area.
The Southern Sunshine Coast Roads Improvement Study is assessing and identifying new and upgrade needs in the area to improve safety, network resilience and efficiency.
The department has completed a road network study. This study has developed an area-wide transport sequencing plan to ensure that future road network connections and upgrades are planned and delivered in a prioritised, systematic manner.
The study will also deliver business cases for 2 priority projects:
Kawana Motorway (Mooloolah River Interchange to Kawana Way Link Road)
The business cases for the projects will guide future investment decisions that improve safety, connectivity, network capacity and resilience.
The project team will keep key stakeholders and the community informed as the project progresses. The design and construction of the projects will be subject to future funding availability in consideration of other competing statewide priorities.

Options to improve safety and reduce congestion are being investigated at the Caloundra Road, Kawana Way Link Road and Bells Creek Arterial Road intersection in Caloundra.
Options are being investigated for a new motorway link (Kawana Motorway) between Parrearra and Meridan Plains. This new motorway will help cater for the growing population.
The Sunshine Motorway, Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade will deliver a safe, efficient, and effective transport network to meet the current and future transport needs of the Sunshine Coast.
